The two types of green roofs

1) The most typical green roof system is partially or completely covered with vegetation. EXP. Roof gardens or live roofs

2) The second type of green roof uses green technology. EXP. Reflective roofs, cool roofs, white roofs, and solar roofing systems are considered green roofs. In addition many energy efficient green upgrades are available on the market today. Many experts agree that when it comes to roofs, white is the new green. These experts are referring to the reflectivity of white roofs, which are considered to be very energy efficient roofing systems. On the other hand a solar roofing system, actually produces its own energy, and can be used as an alternative energy source.

Possible Definitions for a Green Roof

The term “green roof” can be confusing because people interpret it differently.

Examples

1) Indicates a roof composed of environmentally friendly products, such as those made from recycled materials.

2) Green can simply describe the color of the roof.

3) Green can mean a roof containing energy-efficient components, such as reflective roofing membrane, or roofs sprayed with reflective coatings.

4) The term “green roof” usually refers to a system that incorporates rooftop plants (eg., garden roof).
